eTranzact, a leading provider of electronic payment solutions, has partnered with Medylife Healthcare to provide comprehensive breast cancer screening for staff. The event, held on October 14, 2024, at eTranzact Ghana’s headquarters, included screenings and educational sessions for male and female employees.
This initiative highlights the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer and aims to raise awareness and promote health and well-being among the company’s staff.
Dr. Isaac Kwapong, the lead specialist from Medylife Healthcare highlighted that women over the age of 50 are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer, whilst men account for only about 1% of breast cancer cases. He discussed two primary types of breast cancer: ductal carcinoma and lobular carcinoma. Although the exact cause of breast cancer remains unknown, several risk factors have been identified, including being female, obesity, and a family history of the disease, he added.
The specialist outlined some common symptoms of breast cancer, such as the presence of a lump in the breast and noticeable changes in the size, shape, or appearance of the breast. He advised that women should conduct self-examinations 3 to 5 days after their menstrual cycle for optimal results.
Employees were taught how to perform a self-examination for breast health.
Dr. Isaac also took the opportunity to educate on the risk factors, symptoms, treatment options, complications, and prevention methods for cervical cancer in women and prostate cancer in men.
“Screening and vaccination are key to preventing Cervical Cancer” he stated.
“I am thankful that our company prioritizes our health. This session has not only offered me valuable screenings but also raised awareness about breast cancer, Cervical Cancer, and Prostate cancer. It’s a commendable initiative”, a staff, Benjamin Adotor said.
